Andrew Milne currently researches full time at the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adours on a project related to the presence of Anglophones in the area of Pau (Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France), a city with historical ties to English-speakers for more than two centuries. He is on sabbatical leave from his permanent position at Sciences Po Toulouse (Occitanie, France), and he holds a PhD in British Studies, from the University of Toulouse II Jean Jaurès. His research fields are related to the questions of migration, integration and, in particular, national identities, comparative studies of France and the United Kingdom. He is also interested in the question of the Sikh diaspora and how that ethno-religious group has managed to integrate and to live in both the UK and France, dealing with notions of identity adaptation, and the turban campaigns of this visible, and yet also highly invisible, community. He has published a number of works related to the theories of national identity, and to the Sikh campaigns for recognition.

Currently undertaking a research programme financed by the city of Pau and the University of Pau and the Pays de l'Adour, between 2022 and 2024, when I shall return to Sciences Po Toulouse.
The city of Pau has rich and historical links with Anglophones, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Using the scientific methodology of Oral History, interviews are being carried out of current-day Anglophones who have settled in Pau and its region, recording their life stories. The sound recordings will be archived in the Usine des Tramways, municipal archive repository and also in the French National Archies, where they will be preserved.
